Piedmont Walton Hospital in Monroe will partner with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at the hospital’s Medical Office Building, 2151B W. Spring St., Suite 100, in Monroe.
The blood drive comes after the Red Cross declared an emergency blood shortage, citing a nearly 25% drop in the national blood supply in June and increased demand from hospitals.
“Giving blood is one of the easiest ways to help others,” Cari Bailey, director of community relations at Piedmont Walton Hospital, said in a press release. “With the Red Cross reporting an emergency blood shortage, now is a critical time.”
According to the press release, Piedmont Walton collected 29 units of blood during its July 3 blood drive—enough to potentially help save up to 87 lives. The Red Cross says all blood types are needed, with the greatest need for O-positive, B-negative and AB plasma donations.
