Walton County Public Works is reporting that Sardis Church Road will be closed between Oscar Barton Road and Youth Monroe Road due to a road realignment project beginning Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024 until completion of project. Motorists are urged to use alternate routes until completion of the project.
This improvement is in preparation for the Youth – Monroe / Highway 78 traffic light.
“Walton County Government would like to than Mr. Mark Yarbrough owner of Marbin Properties, LLC for working to help the County to secure the right of way needed to make the intersection improvements at Sardis Church Road at Youth – Monroe Road,” Walton County government noted on social media. “Once the Sardis Church Road at Youth – Monroe Road intersection is complete it will allow for the removal of the H D Atha and Youth – Monroe Road intersection. All traffic will be required to access Youth – Monroe via Sardis Church Road.”
In the meantime, Walton County Manager, John Ward, has signed the Georgia Department of Transportation Signal Permit for the new traffic light at Youth Monroe. Once that is complete, GDOT crews will be notified so they can proceed with installation of the traffic light.
Official note that Walton County Public Works crews will be on site from this week to complete the local improvements in order to expedite the process and save local tax money. Motorists are urged to use caution for the safety of the workers to ensure that they too get home safely.
The Walton County improvements will be funded by SPLOST funds.
