WALTON COUNTY, GA (Oct. 24, 2023) – Where there is smoke, there is not always fire – at least not today in Walton County.
Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Craig League said that there have been several complaints this afternoon about the smoke that is covering a large portion of the county. However, it is not from any local fire.
“The smoke is blowing into Walton from a large prescribed burn in another county east of here,” League said.
The bad news, however, is it is likely to get worse tonight for us before it gets better, according to League.
“I would assume the smoke could get worse with the cooling off of the atmosphere this evening,” he said.
The good news is, however, that there is no big fire in Walton County that is causing the problem.
