The Walton County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a State of the City and Political Candidate forum on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 at the Historic Rock Gym, Main Street, 135 Main St., Loganville. This will begin at 5 p.m. with networking. Dinner and the State of the City by Loganville Mayor Dan Curry will follow from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. There is a cost of $15 for the dinner.
The political candidate forum will follow at 7 p.m. Two mayoral candidates and five city council candidates qualified for the November elections.
Former councilman Rey Martinez will face off against Donna Jones, wife of former mayor, councilman and previous city manager Bill Jones, in the mayoral race. Five candidates qualified for the three at-large seats on the City Council. Incumbent Councilman Danny Ford qualified for re-election and former councilman will face off against former mayor and councilman Mike Jones and political newcomers Anne Coles, Lisa Newberry and Femi Oduwole. The top three vote-getters will earn a seat on the City Council.
The election is on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, with early voting beginning on Monday, Oct. 16. Only residents of the City of Loganville can vote in the municipal elections. The election, as well as advanced voting, will take place at the Historic Rock Gym Convention Center at 135 Main St., Loganville. The last day to register to vote for residents who are not yet registered is Oct. 10, 2017.
