| The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will reduce the posted speed on State Route (SR) 316 from 65 mph to 55 mph as construction continues in Barrow County. This work zone speed reduction will remain in place until further notice affecting both directions near Barber Creek Road and SR 211/Bethlehem Road within the Statham city limits. This change coincides with the installation of temporary barrier walls for bridge work at both Barber Creek Road and SR 211/Bethlehem Road. The temporary concrete barriers will tighten traffic lanes and impact traffic flow during this phase of work. This project is part of a series of roadway improvement projects along SR 316 from SR 20 in Gwinnett County to SR 10 in Athens, Oconee County. SR 316 at Barber Creek Road is packaged as a bundle with SR 316 at SR 211/Bethlehem Road (P.I. Nos. 0013910/0010352) for procurement, final design, and construction. Once completed, the at-grade crossings will be replaced with grade separated (overpass bridges) diamond interchanges with a single-lane roundabout and new frontage roads to help reduce the severity and frequency of crashes. Construction is anticipated to be completed in 2028. WHEN/WHERE: Speed Limit Reduction Friday, April 4, 2025 The reduced speed limit will remain in place for the duration of the project. On SR 316 eastbound and westbound between the intersections at Barber Creek Road and SR 211/Bethlehem Road. Advisory: Motorists are urged to reduce speed, stay alert, and exercise caution while traveling through work zones. With workers and heavy construction equipment present at all times, awareness is critical. Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be placed on each end of the project to notify the public of the upcoming work. Exact times may change due to weather conditions.
