Long-term, full closure at the intersection to remain until early 2027
STATHAM – Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will implement a long-term, full closure at the intersection of State Route (SR) 316 and Barber Creek Road in Barrow County, to allow for the construction of a new bridge, ramps, and roundabouts.
Beginning overnight Wednesday, April 30, 2025, heavy construction equipment and temporary concrete barriers will be staged in the median and along the shoulders of SR 316 at Barber Creek Road.
Georgia DOT has recommended routes for traffic needing access from both sides of this roadway. For motorists traveling south of SR 316 from Barber Creek Road should take SR 53/Hog Mountain Road south to SR 211/Bethlehem Road. Motorists traveling north of SR 316 should take SR 211/Bethlehem Road south to US 78/Atlanta Highway, then follow it to Barber Creek Road. Properly signed and marked routes will be in place to guide drivers through the area. Local roads may also provide alternative travel routes. This full closure will remain in place throughout the duration of the bridge and ramp construction, with work expected to be completed by Quarter 1 2027.
This project is part of a series of roadway improvement projects along SR 316 from SR 20 in Gwinnett County to SR 10 in Athens, Oconee County. The SR 316 at CR 329/Barber Creek Road project is bundled with SR 316 at SR 211/Bethlehem Road(P.I. Nos. 0013910/0010352) for procurement, final design, and construction.
ADVISORY: Motorists are urged to reduce speed, stay alert, and exercise caution while traveling through work zones. With workers and heavy construction equipment always present, awareness is critical. Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be placed at each end of the project to notify the public of the upcoming work.
