Update: 33-year-old arrested in fatal shooting in Monroe

Update: Public Safety Director Keith Glass announced that Manual Lajun Hector, 33, was arrested at his residence minutes after Monroe Police officers arrived on the scene of Thursday’s fatal shooting. He is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Update: Monroe Public Safety Director Keith Glass issued the following statement regarding a fatal shooting in Monroe on Thursday.

On 22 June, 2017 at approximately 1230pm Monroe Police Officers were dispatched to a gunshot wound in the area of 1017 Wheel House Lane.  Upon arrival Officers located a male subject that had been shot in the chest during an altercation. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Uylesis Marvin Brown of Monroe. Monroe Fire and Walton EMS rendered aid then transported Brown to Clearview Regional, where he later succumbed to his injuries. One person was immediately taken into custody.  The investigation remains active and the City of Monroe Police Department ask that anyone having information about this crime contact Lt. Monroe Public Safety Director Keith Glass confirmed on Thursday, June  22, 2017, that police and emergency personnel are currently working a “person shot” situation in Monroe. Assistant Fire Chief Bill Owens said that the shooting was in the Towler Street area of Monroe.
