Update: Identity of victims released in double homicide over sale of motorcycle

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two victims of Monday’s homicide and is asking for the public’s help in identifying other possible parties involved. The two victims, both from Meriwether County, are identified as Cortez White and Davoddren Harris. Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman said the two men had come to Walton County to sell a motorcycle that they had advertised on a social media site when they were shot, causing the vehicle they were in to wreck. A 16-year-old from Social Circle has already been arrested and charged with the murders and the motorcycle has been recovered.

“We are asking is anyone from the Social Circle area saw anyone riding on this motorcycle,” Chapman said. If anybody saw someone riding this motorcycle (pictured below), they are asked to call 911 or contact WCSO at 770-267-6557.

Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman confirmed that the two murder victims located in a crashed vehicle in the Social Circle area of Walton County on Monday were from Meriwether County. Their names, however, have not yet been release. A 16-year-old teen has been arrested in connection with the double murder

“He is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault,” Chapman said, adding he is a city of Social Circle resident. “What happened was the two victims had an item for sale on social media and they came up to meet with the subject for the sale. The object that was for sale, which I cannot release at this time, was the object of the shooting.”

Chapman said they do believe there are other suspects involved and are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the other persons involved.

“The Juvenile charged in this matter is from Social Circle. We feel reasonably sure that somewhere in this area there are people who know something–anything at all about what happened last night and who else is involved,” WCSO said in a post on Facebook. “Please reach out to law enforcement and help us make additional arrests in this horrible case. The good people of Social Circle and all of our community deserve it.”
