Update: January 25, 2026 Homicide Investigation – GW Carver Drive
A major development has emerged in the January 25, 2026, shooting death investigation on GW Carver Drive.
Following a comprehensive investigation, detectives with the Monroe Police Department concluded that the death of TEONIA STOKES resulted from the actions of DORREOUS BROOKS and CURDARIOUS WILLIAMS, both residents of Monroe, Georgia.
WILLIAMS, who was initially shot and transported to a local hospital on the night of the incident, has since been released from medical care and taken into custody.

Dorreous Brooks has been charged with:
- Felony Murder

- Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon
- Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
- Aggravated Assault
- Aggravated Battery
- Reckless Conduct

Curdarious Williams has been charged with:
- Felony Murder
- Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon
- Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
- Feticide
Update
MONROE, GA (Jan. 28, 2026) – Monroe Police Chief R.V. Watts announced Tuesday evening that the suspect in the weekend murder of Teonia Stokes and her unborn baby had been arrested.
“Officers and detectives immediately took appropriate steps to secure and preserve the scene, identify all parties involved, and begin establishing a motive for this incident. Detectives gathered evidence, conducted interviews, and executed search warrants as part of an extensive investigation in pursuit of the truth,” Watts reported, adding that through collaborative efforts with many other law enforcement agencies they were able to identify Dorreous Brooks as the suspect and pull warrants to charge him with felony murder and feticide.
Watts said that with the assistance of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Barrow County Sheriff’s, Brooks was subsequently taken into custody last night without incident.
“I want to personally express my gratitude to the officers, deputies, detectives, and agents from all the agencies involved in this investigation. I am extremely proud of the partnerships we share and grateful for their support, dedication, and communication, which were instrumental in bringing this tragic situation toward resolution,” Watts said.
Watts listed all the agencies involved in the investigation, search and subsequent arrest of Brooks, which included the Walton County GA Sheriff’s Office, Walton County District Attorney’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Social Circle Police Department, Georgia Department of Community Supervision, the Newton County, GA Sheriff’s Office, Covington (Ga.) Police Department, and Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.

Suspect is considered armed and dangerous – reward offered for information leading to his arrest

MONROE, GA — (Jan 27, 2026) – The Monroe Police Department continues to investigate the weekend shooting that resulted in the death of Teonia Stokes and the injury of Curdarious Wiiliams. They announced that they have obtained arrest warrants for Dorreous Brooks, 36, of Monroe. He is charged with felony murder and feticide in the death of Stokes.
“Brooks is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him or have information about his whereabouts, do not approach him. Please dial 9-1-1 immediately,” MPD reported.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Dorreous Brooks, and anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact Detective Mitch Studdard at 678-283-5422 or Sergeant Josh Reynolds at 770-652-0612.
Update
The Monroe Police Department has identified the the individuals involved in the shooting that occurred in the 100 block of GW Carver Drive early Sunday morning.
The deceased woman has been identified as Teonia Stokes, 22, of Social Circle. The injured male victim who was transported to a local hospital for treatment has been identified as Curdarious Williams, 25, of Monroe.
MPD report this incident remains an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives continue to work diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. MONROE, GA (Jan. 25, 2026) The Monroe Police Department is investigating a shooting in the city in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026 that left a woman dead and and a man injured.
According to a press release from the MPD, the shooting occurred in the 100 block of GW Carver Drive at around 2:30 a.m. this morning.
“One adult female was pronounced deceased at the scene. An adult male also sustained injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment,” MPD reported on social media. “Further updates will be released as they become available.”
This incident is under active investigation and detectives are reportedly working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Information provided by the public may be critical to the investigation.
