Update traffic alert: Final paving on Bold Springs roundabout starts Tuesday

BOLD SPRINGS- Georgia Department of Transportation is reporting that final paving for the roundabout at the intersection of State Route 81 and Bold Springs Road will begin tomorrow, April 10, 2018. Crews will work from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

“This work will require single intermittent lane closures along with flagging operators to direct motorist through the project limits. Night time paving will begin Wednesday, April 11, 2018 through Saturday, April 14, 2018 between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.,” Georgia DOT announced in a press release.

Motorists are reminded to slow down when entering a work zone and to be alert as there will be workers on site.

Initial Story

The newly constructed roundabout at the intersection of State Route 81 and Bold Springs Road will be open to traffic on Tuesday, March 13, 2018.

According to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation, crews will begin working on striping the lanes at 9 a.m. tomorrow and expects to have traffic flowing in final configuration by 2 p.m. that day. This roundabout replaces the former 4-way stop at that intersection.

“Roundabouts have demonstrated substantial safety and operational benefits compared to other forms of intersection control, with reductions in fatal and injury crashes of from 60-87 percent,” Georgia DOT noted in the press release.
