Update: Victim identified in Thursday morning fatality in Monroe

Update

Georgia State Patrol has identified the victim in the wreck on Ga. 10 (Highway 78) Thursday morning as Jiles Christian, 62, of Monroe (formerly of Snellville).

Georgia State Patrol reports that the wreck at Rowe Road and Georgia 10 (Highway 78) just before 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018, resulted in the death of a 62-year-old man from Snellville. His name is not being given at this time pending notification of his next of kin.

GSP Trooper First Class Cal Barton said the victim was traveling north on Rowe Road and the driver of the other vehicle, a Ford Escape driving by Penni Barnett, 58, of Monroe, was traveling east on Ga. 10 when the victim failed to yield and traveled into the path of her vehicle.

“He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected,” Barton said. “He was flown to Grady, but did not survive his injuries. The roadway was shut down for about an hour and 20 minutes.

The other victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

A two car accident at the intersection of Highway 78 and Rowe Road on Thursday morning, March 8, 2018, resulted in two people being transported to hospital.
“(There were) two injuries, one patient was transported via air ambulance to a trauma center and the other driver was transported to the hospital via ground ambulance,” Capt. Jeff Allen with Walton County Fire Rescue said just before 10 a.m. “The east bound roadway was closed briefly to land the air ambulance; one lane is now open.”

Initial Story

Crews are working a wreck at Highway 78 and Rowe Road. Avoid the area if at all possible. The roadway is partially shut down and a life flight helicopter is on the way.
