WALNUT GROVE, GA (June 9, 2026) – The football communities in Walnut Grove and Kentucky are mourning the passing of former Warrior and subsequent Kentucky football player Nicholas ‘Nic’ Smith, of Loganville, who was reportedly found dead in his dorm room Monday morning.
The University of Kentucky announced his passing on social media Monday, noting that the community was mourning the loss of “Nic” “Happy” Smith “a talented football player, dedicated student, and beloved friend who passed away at the age of 20.”
According to reports, no announcement has been made regarding his cause of death outside of a statement that foul play is not suspected at this time.
The current and former Walnut Grove Warriors who knew Smith, affectionately known as “Big Happy,” announced that they were to gather at the Warrior Football Stadium at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, for a time “dedicated to prayer, reflection and remembrance” of the former Warrior football and basketball player.
Words of sorrow, consolation and prayers for his family are pouring in on social media in Kentucky as well as Walton County as the communities struggle to come to terms with the loss of such a young, beloved member of the communities.
