Walton/Gwinnett and surounding counties are officially in a Level 1 Drought

press release from the walton county government

Although this morning it may not feel like it, Walton/Gwinnett and the surrounding counties are officially in the area in Georgia designated as a Level 1 drought. We are expecting rain over the next few days but it is not expected to make too much of a difference.

Press release from Walton County Government giving guidance on how to assist in conserving water follows.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has officially issued a Level 1 Drought Declaration for our area.

Because things have been a bit dry lately, we are kindly encouraging everyone to be mindful of water usage. Every little drop saved helps us take care of our beautiful community!

To help conserve our resources, here is a quick refresher on our current outdoor watering guidelines:

-General landscape watering should be done between 4 pm and 10 am each day.

-Irrigation of personal food gardens may be done at any time of day.

-Irrigation of new and replanted plants, seeds, or turf may be done at any time of day for 30 days after installation.

-Drip irrigation or irrigation using soaker hoses may be done at any time of day,

-Hand watering with a hose with an automatic cutoff or a handheld container may be done at any time of day.

If conditions stay dry and the state moves us to a Level 2 Drought, we might have to implement a few stricter rules, but for now, we just ask that you do your best to help us conserve where you can.

Thank you so much for your help in keeping Walton County thriving!
