Students evacuated
WALTON COUNTY, GA (May 12, 2026) – Walton County Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Craig League reports that WCFR and Monroe Fire Department responded Tuesday morning to smoke in the building at Walker Park Elementary School.
“Students were evacuated from the building. The source of the smoke was traced to a HVAC unit on the roof,” League said. “All students and faculty are safe. There was no actual fire in the building, just smoke from the HVAC unit. The HVAC unit has been disconnected and is secure.”
League said that students are preparing for field day activities, and that should continue as planned.
