Patriotism runs deep in Walton County, and this summer residents will have the opportunity to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday with a weeklong series of events honoring America’s history, heritage, and enduring spirit of freedom. Beginning this month, and ending with a bumper celebration on July 4th, look for a celebration of the red, white and blue across the county.
As the United States marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, communities across Walton County are coming together to recognize the milestone with parades, concerts, historical programs, family activities, food vendors, and fireworks. Local leaders note that Walton County’s strong appreciation for faith, family, military service, and country makes the America 250 celebration especially meaningful for residents.
Festivities begin June 27 and continue through July 4, featuring events involving Loganville, Between, Social Circle, Good Hope, Walnut Grove, Jersey, and Monroe.
The celebration kicks off in Loganville on June 27 with food trucks and a concert by Bad Medicine at West Walton Park. A community prayer breakfast is planned for June 30.
On July 1, the cities of Loganville and Between will host food trucks, live entertainment, and family activities on Loganville’s Town Green. Social Circle and Good Hope will partner for a Heroes Parade through downtown Social Circle on July 2.
The countywide celebration continues July 3 at Walnut Grove Park, where Walton County, Walnut Grove, and Jersey will host an evening concert featuring Funky Bluester & the 293 Band along with food trucks and family-friendly activities.
The largest celebration is planned for July 4 in downtown Monroe. Activities include the Walton County Historical Society’s Historic Hustle 5K, a DAR tree planting, veterans wreath ceremony, historical tours, patriotic music from the Yargo Concert Band, the children’s Sparkle and Spokes Parade, the Great American Pie Showdown, vendor markets, food trucks, live entertainment, and family activities.
The weeklong celebration concludes with a fireworks display over downtown Monroe at 9:30 p.m., synchronized to patriotic music broadcast by WMOQ.
