MONROE, Ga. — (June 17, 2026) Walton County voters delivered a strong showing for Rick Jackson in the Republican gubernatorial runoff while producing one of the closest contests of the evening in the Republican U.S. Senate race, according to unofficial results from the Georgia Secretary of State’s Election Night Reporting system. All 15 precincts reported results Tuesday night. 

Jackson won Walton County with 7,002 votes (56.87%), defeating Burt Jones, who received 5,311 votes (43.13%). 

The closest race on the local ballot was the Republican U.S. Senate runoff, where Derek Dooley edged Mike Collins by just 64 votes, receiving 6,183 votes (50.26%) to Collins’ 6,119 votes (49.74%). 

Walton County voters were slightly more supportive of Rick Jackson than the statewide Republican electorate, which gave Jackson approximately 52.7% of the vote. Walton Republicans also differed from the statewide outcome in the U.S. Senate race, narrowly favoring Derek Dooley, while Republicans statewide ultimately nominated Mike Collins.

Statewide, Georgia Senate District 46 mirrored Walton County results by nominating Marc McMain with 64.53 % of voters choosing him over Doug McKillip. Walton County was more enthusiastic, giving McMain 74.03 % of the vote.

The Democratic electorate in Walton County generally aligned with statewide Democratic voters, who selected Josh McLaurin, Penny Brown Reynolds, Keisha Sean Waites and Nikki Porcher as their nominees for November.
