There will be no Special Olympics in Walton County this year. At this time the country and state is under a State of Emergency due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and it is not known when the situation will improve enough to lift emergency regulations.
Organizer Janice Tribble said due to the uncertainty of all that is going, the committee met on Thursday, March 19, 2020, and decided it was best to go ahead and cancel the Walton County Special Olympics this year. The event was scheduled for April 17.
“This was very sad for all of us. Some of us have been doing this almost 30 years, and this is the first time we have had to cancel. It is always a fun day for us and the athletes, but we just had no choice,” Tribble said. “God Bless all of you that help and Volunteer! Pray for our country.”
