Another new restaurant headed for Monroe

It seems like almost every week we get word of another new restaurant that has its sights set on Monroe – and this week is no different. As well as Your Pie that is schedule for a fall opening, a new restaurant with a “southern flair” announced this weekend that it too is schedule to open on South Broad Street later this year.

Aptly named, South on Broad, Kitchen and Bar, is the new venture of chef Adam Bailey with the help of his in-laws, Rita and David Dickinson.

“South on Broad will be opening in the fall – good food and a full bar,” David Dickinson announced after what has been termed another successful farm to table dinner on Court Street this weekend. For the second-year, Bailey was a chef for the event. He and Silver Queen (another restaurant headed for Monroe in the near future) chef Wes Kent were responsible for turning local produce into an appetizing dinner. It is in the spirit of that approach that South on Broad will be serving up its meals at South on Broad.

“It is a fresh approach to southern fare, utilizing local farms and vendors to help cultivate a community experience,” Bailey said.

Prior to working at a local restaurant for a while, Bailey put in his time overseeing a restaurant on Saint Simon’s Island and in Savannah, Ga. as well as serving as sous chef at Harry Bissett’s and the Place in Athens. Rita Dickinson said his Shrimp and Grits is one of the favorite tastes from his menu items. South on Broad promises to bring Bailey’s two decades of culinary experience to downtown Monroe where it will feature a “from scratch kitchen and a craft cocktail bar.”

South on Broad will be located at 137 and 139 south Broad Street. Click or tap on this link to the newly established Facebook Page to following the progress as yet another restaurant brings new  culinary options to local residents.
