Monroe-based auto parts manufacturer Astemo cut the ribbon recently on its latest addition, a free employee health clinic designed to provide workers and their families with health care for all their daily needs.
“This is an investment in you,” Bo Shiring, site head of Astemo in Monroe, said at the ribbon cutting ceremony. “When our people are healthy, we all perform better.”
The clinic officially opened its doors Jan. 7 and Shirling said it was already a great addition to the company and its community.
“We’re already seeing a positive impact from it,” Shirling said.
Nearly three months after it opened to patients, the clinic was the site of a formal ribbon cutting, as dozens of workers, officials and community dignitaries gathered to enjoy food and raffle giveaways to celebrate the official welcome for the new clinic.
Val Leyder, senior vice president of operations for Marathon, which is operating the clinic through a partnership with Astemo, said she was proud to have another clinic opened at one of the company’s branches.
“We are humbled and honored to be long-term partners,” Leyder said. “We’re proud to support your employees and their families. Thank you for trusting us.”
The clinic is open to all employees of Astemo and their families, offering check-ups, testing services, prescriptions and more, free of charge through the company’s benefits package.
Tim Clark, CEO of Astemo, said it was all part of a commitment to taking care of their employees.
“Health and safety is our No. 1 priority,” he said.
Dave Hanks, head of human capital for Astemo, said the clinic was the culmination of a project long in the making.
“This has been a long time coming,” Hanks said. “We’ve been trying to get a clinic here for two years. I’m really happy to have the clinic here and provide access to our employees to great health care right here on site.”
The Marathon clinic is actually one of many that have opened up at the various Astemo plants around the globe, each one providing health care services to employees right on site.
In fact, Monroe is actually the last of Astemo’s various locations to finally see a clinic open.
“This is the finale,” Clark said. “This is the last site to open up a clinic for our employees.”
Mayor John Howard was on hand to help cut the ribbon with the help of the Walton County Chamber of Commerce.
After the formal opening of the clinic, guests took tours of the clinic while others enjoyed an outdoor meal of hot dogs while prizes were given away.
Overall, Clark said, it was a proud moment for Astemo.
“Please enjoy the clinic,” he said.
