WALTON COUNTY, GA (March 22, 2025) – Just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, Walton County Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Craig League reported that WCFR has multiple units on the scene of a woods fire on Highway 78 at Troy Smith Road.
“Georgia Forestry has been requested to respond with a fire plow to plow a fire break. The fire is believed to have spread from an unauthorized fire in a residential area and spread to the adjacent woods,” League said. “With the high winds and low humidity levels the fire has quickly spread to approximately 5 acres. WCFR has 3 Engines, 2 manpower squads, 2 brush trucks, and Ga Forestry has 2 units on scene.”
League said the fire is contained at this time.
The National Weather Service declared a Red Flag High Fire Danger for Saturday due to the high winds and low humidity levels and urged residents not to burn outdoors due to fire safety concerns.
