Breaking: Pedestrian injured when he allegedly runs into oncoming vehicle

A 24-year-old Watkinsville man was injured Thursday night when he allegedly attempted to run in front of a car on Highway 11 in Walton County.

According to Trooper First Class Cal Barton with Georgia State Patrol, the man was injured when he ran into an oncoming 2017 Honda driven by Antoinette Patmon, 44, from Monroe.

“The driver and a witness in the vehicle behind both said that he told them he was trying to kill himself,” Barton said. “According to the driver and the witness, they saw him walking on the shoulder of the road, so she moved over into the oncoming traffic lane. That’s when he ran towards her vehicle.”

Barton said the accident happened on Highway 11, close to Twin Lakes Recovering Center where the man was a current resident. He was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center with serious, but not life threatening, injuries. Highway 11 was shut down for about 40 minutes.
