Lorine Greene has seen a great deal in her life. The Great Depression. World War II. The moon landing. The fall of the Berlin Wall. And much, much more. much more.

But it’s easy to get a firsthand look at history when you’ve been around for 100 years.

Greene turned 100 last week with a celebration at The Joy Senior Living in Loganville, surrounded by family and friends, as well as celebrated by city officials and others who came by to wish the centenarian a happy birthday.

Greene was born on May 26, 1926 to Wherry and Mary Bell Harrington as the youngest of five siblings. After graduating from Columbia High School in Lake City, Florida, in 1945, she would marry Thomas Mangle in 1950. She would have two children with Mangle over 34 years of marriage, leading to three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She remarried in 1992 to William Greene after Mangle passed away in 1984. William passed away in 2012.

Greene worked for Abernathy Publishing Company for 30 years and has enjoyed working in the yard, bowling, camping, fishing and being involved with children’s sporting activities.

Mayor Branden Whitfield dropped by the birthday party to congratulate Greene on her reaching 100 and presented her with a T shirt and the city’s best wishes.

“Thank you for calling Loganville home,” he said.
