Chapman honored on U.S. House floor Wednesday for service to community

Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman was honored on the floor of the United States House of Representatives on Wednesday morning by U.S. Rep. Mike Collins (Georgia 10) who thank him for his service to his community along with three of Chapman’sfellow District 10 Sheriffs Janis Mangum, Melvin Andrews and Robert Markley.

This comes on heels of Chapman being honored by Walton County Chairman David Thompson and the Board of Commissioners the night before in the BOC chambers.

Chapman decided to retire after serving as Walton County’s sheriff for the past 20 years, deciding not to run again in 2024 after winning for the first time in 2004 followed by four successful re-election campaigns. On Nov. 5, the voters passed the torch to his longtime chief deputy, now Sheriff-elect Keith Brooks.

Sheriff was not Chapman’s first service to the local community. Prior to that he was a beat cop with the City of Monroe before going on to serve as a Walton County juvenile court investigator. And before that, Chapman has served the in Marines.

Collins took to the floor of the U.S. House of Representative this week to add his congratulations to Chapman on his retirement and to thank him for his service to the community. You can watch Collins speech at this link. https://fb.watch/wggyGoX2eQ
