Cold Case: WCSO continue investigation into 2013 hit-and-run that killed a 16-year-old student

MAHS student died following an accident on Highway 11 on his way to school

WCSO continues to investigate the 2017 hit-and-run incident that killed 16-year-old Monroe Area High School student Jacob Little. Aug. 27, 2025 will be the 12th anniversary of the morning that Little was stuck and killed on Highway 11 on his way to school.

According to reports at the time, at about 6.30 a.m. Little and a friend were walking to school, traveling south on Ga. Highway 11 just north of the Monroe City Limits. Little was riding a skateboard when he struck a dead animal carcass on the side of the road causing him to lose balance and his skateboard shot out into the road. He followed it into the road and was immediately struck by a southbound vehicle that continued on without stopping, effectively leaving the scene of the accident. Other drivers that witnessed the accident stopped immediately and called 911.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office and City of Monroe Police responded to the scene and, due to it being a hit-and-run, the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Reconstructive Investigation Team (SCRT) also responded. Although the GSP investigators determined that it was an unfortunate accident, the possibility that the initial driver fled the scene knowing that it was a person that was hit has made this case a felony.

This case continues to be investigated by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit. Numerous leads have been received and investigated. Anyone with knowledge of this incident should contact Walton County Cold Case Investigator Michael Rising at 770-266-1558 and leave a message or email michael.rising@co.walton.ga.us All contacts will be kept confidential.
