There is still a little time to sign on as a sponsor and get your name on the T-shirt

Compound Fitness Monroe is all settled in its new location at 329 S Lumpkin St. in Monroe, has had its Grand Opening and inaugural annual Monroe Health and Wellness Expo and is now making plans for its inaugural Monster Dash 5K and Spooky Sprint through the streets of Monroe.
The event is one that is close to their hearts – it is to raise funds for the Heart of Madison, Inc charity in tribute to Madison Evans.
According to the website for the Heart of Madison Inc., it is a Covington‑based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in early 2022 to carry forward the legacy of Madison Evans, of Monroe, “a passionate UGA student whose life was cut short by a congenital heart defect. In honor of Madison’s dream to become a teacher, the organization established a perpetual scholarship at UGA’s Early Childhood Education department and works to ‘bless and touch lives’ through ongoing mission-driven programs.
By bringing together fitness enthusiasts and families for this 5K, Compound Fitness Monroe is doing more than promoting health and community—it’s helping to fuel life-changing scholarships and honor Madison’s legacy. And to the founders and some of the staff at Compound Fitness Monroe, it is personal. Madison is someone whose family is close to their hearts.
“Heather (Madison’s mom) is a personal friend of mine. She was coming to bootcamp at CFL,” said April Fralick, co-founder of Compound Fitness Monroe. “We absolutely are wanting to raise awareness. Heather has worked hard making the Heart of Madison what it is today.”
Kelly Murell is a coach at Compound Fitness Monroe and race coordinator for the event. Her family connection to Madison’s family goes back even further.
“My family has actually known Heather and her family for many years. Her dad and my dad went to high school together and Heather, her sister Shelly, and I all went to high school together as well. We’ve followed Madison as a baby, her many surgeries at the Ronald McDonald house – even saving thousands of can pop tabs to help with costs; to the pre-teen and teenage Madison who lived such an amazing life; to her marriage and then much more serious heart problems,” Murell said. “She was a sweet, kind soul. Loved Jesus and people.
So, in honor of Madison and the Heart of Madison, Inc. charity, on Nov. 1, the community is invited to “Come dressed in your favorite Halloween costume to walk, creep, crawl or run,” to help support this non-profit organization dedicated to bringing awareness to congenital heart defects and helping families in need.”
“As the starting gun fires, runners, walkers, and supporters will set out along a scenic course planned by Compound’s team. Participants can expect a friendly, inclusive atmosphere, upbeat energy, and a shared goal: raising awareness and funds for a cause that beats at the heart of our region. Join us for a morning of purpose, sweat, and cheer—all while supporting an organization that’s making a real difference in the lives of students and families. Let’s run with heart,” Compound Fitness Monroe noted in the event calendar item.
The 5K starts at 8:30 a.m. The Spooky Spring (800m) for kids will begin at 8 a.m. It will be a flat course, a little different from the usual local 5Ks run and it will be a race qualifier for those runners who do that.
“This race will be the first of its kind around the area. We want the runners to be dressed in costume (to run off all that candy), Be creative; come in groups; or families dressed like TV shows, cartoon characters – just have FUN,” Murell said. “Our shirt designs and age group prizes both are unique and fun- made by local businesses as well. We’ll also have a costume contest for one adult in the 5k; a best ‘group’ costume and a best kid costume for the spooky sprint.”
There is still a little time to sign on as a sponsor if you would like to have your name added to the sponsor list of people and businesses who got behind this cause.
“Anytime Monroe residents see The Heart of Madison, I want them to see Madison’s face and help in any way they can. Heather and her family give back to communities; to UGA; and to CHOA. Madison was a vibrant, 21-year-old in 2020 when she lost her hard fought battle, but the joy and enthusiasm she lived by goes on today through her non-profit,” Murell said. “Our 5k offers multiple sponsorship levels to accommodate a variety of giving capacities. Compound Fitness-Monroe would be honored to have your organization join us as a valued sponsor. Your support will ensure the success of this event and make a significant impact on the lives of those affected by CHD and The Heart Of Madison Inc.”
