Constitution Week is celebrated from Sept. 17 to 23 each year to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. It was officially designated by Congress in 1956 following a proclamation by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The week serves as a reminder of the importance of the Constitution in American democracy.
At last week’s city council meeting, the City of Loganville proclaimed Sept. 17–23, 2026, as Constitution Week, recognizing the 239th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. Mayor Branden Whitfield read the Proclamation and gave a signed copy to Mary Siler, First Vice President of ALA Unit 233 – also serving as Americanism Chairperson this year, and Cathy Hedges, District 10 President for the American Legion Auxiliary. Whitfield encouraged Loganville residents to reflect on the principles established by the nation’s Founders and the freedoms protected by the Constitution.
