COVID-19: Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts closes thru March 31

press release from the Monroe Walton center for the arts

The Board of Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts has made the decision to close the center at least through March 31 – this includes all classes, plus our gallery and shop.

OFFICE HOURS
Limited office hours will be maintained Tuesday – Friday from 11 – 4. We will evaluate April hours and events based on the status of COVID-19 and recommendations from officials by March 27. You may reach us at 770-207-8937 or email hope@monroeartguild.org.

UPDATES, ONLINE ART CLASSES, TEACHERS’ EMAILS
We will send updates through email and social media. You may also check our website: https://www.monroewaltonarts.org/ .

We will also provide some online art content through our Facebook page with The Art Donnas (Donna Coffman, our Education Chair, and fellow art teacher, Donna Guntharp) twice weekly. Check our Facebook page regularly!

You will find all our teachers’ emails here: https://www.monroewaltonarts.org/online-class-registration.… Please feel free to communicate with them about the status of your classes.

SHOWS
Our High School Student Art Show will be on display through April 16. Hopefully, we will be open by April 1 or before this astounding show ends. In any case, we will video this amazing display of talent and post it to our Facebook page. The show will, as usual, be judged by officials from SCAD and scholarships awarded. The reception is scheduled for April 16 – we will follow recommendations at that time about holding events and will let you know by the week before. If the reception is canceled, we will announce winners via email and social media.

The next show is the Congressional Art Contest and is scheduled to open April 20. This is managed by Representative Hice’s office. Contact them for updates: https://hice.house.gov/

Our Regional Show is scheduled to open May 1, with pieces to be dropped off for review April 25-26. At this time, we are planning to hold this show, but please stay tuned to our website https://www.monroewaltonarts.org/call-for-entries.html and social media for updates or feel free to call us.

PLEASE REMEMBER …
• Art is good for you and relieves stress! Do 45 minutes of art daily if you can. The Art Donnas will help guide you and your children through some easy and fun art activities.

• Going outside is good for you! Take a walk. If you can make our Sculpture Garden a destination, we will begin *today* with our ART DROPS! We will place copies of our original Art Ideas in the Little Library Box in our garden. We will let you know when fresh ones are available through our Facebook page. These may include our original coloring sheets, journaling sheets or mini-prompts/lessons. Check our Facebook page daily!

• This will pass and we will be a stronger community because of it. Look out for each other, check on your friends, family and neighbors. If nothing else – take them some art supplies! 😊

SUPPORT LOCAL
Please don’t forget our downtown shops and restaurants. Many restaurants will offer delivery or curbside service. Many retail shops remain open. You can purchase gift cards from them to help carry them through these difficult times. Check Monroe’s downtown Facebook page for updates and ways to stay engaged with our vital downtown area here: https://www.facebook.com/monroedowntown/

In this time of uncertainty, we want to thank you for your support through the years and hope you will reach out to us in the coming weeks if we can help you in any way. Spring is coming and we will see you soon in our fabulous classes, gallery and shop.

Wishing you and your family health and peace,
The Board and staff at Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts
