Former LHS Coach and current Walton County BOC member Tommy Stringer passes away

Former Loganville High School football coach and athletic director and current Walton County District 1 Commissioner Tommy Stringer passed away on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 after an extended illness. While he was most known in the local area for his long tenure at LHS, he was also very well known in Georgia high school sports, serving as a member of the Georgia High School Association’s Executive Committee as well as on the Board of Trustees.

Stringer was appointed and sworn in at the March 2017 Walton County Board of Commissioners meeting, replacing the late Commissioners Clinton Ayers who passed away in 2016.

Walton County BOC Chairman Kevin Little said Stringer had battled a lung disease for several months. He said the community has lost a man of outstanding character.

“All of us at Walton County Government are deeply saddened by the passing of Commissioner Stringer. He was a man of outstanding character, and his loss will be felt by many,” Little said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”
