GDOT announces Safety Improvement Project at SR 316 and Harrison Mill Road in Barrow County

press release from Georgia department of transportation

Project will permanently close the median opening on SR 316 at Harrison Mill Road

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will begin a safety improvement project this week at the intersection of SR 316 and Harrison Mill Road in Barrow County.

Construction signs were installed Tuesday, Sept. 1, with construction scheduled to begin Thursday, Sept. 3, weather permitting.

The project will permanently close the median opening on SR 316 at Harrison Mill Road, eliminating all left turns at the intersection. The existing median pavement will be removed and replaced with cable barrier, a proven safety measure designed to reduce the risk of severe crossover crashes.

While most construction activities will take place within the median and outside of the SR 316 travel lanes, motorists should expect occasional daytime closures of the left lane in both directionsbetween 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. throughout construction.

The project is being constructed by Ohmshiv Construction, LLC of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and is expected to take approximately three to four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Georgia DOT encourages motorists to slow down, remain alert in work zones, and plan for minor delays during construction.
