Gwinnett PD charge man after he allegedly breaks into dealership and steals a Mercedes Benz

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. (Dec. 23, 2024) – Gwinnett County Police detectives have charged a 24-year-old Duluth man with breaking into a Mercedes Benz car dealership and stealing a car.

Kaderries Johnson is charged with three counts of Burglary in the Second Degree, three counts of Loitering and Prowling, three counts of misdemeanor Theft by Taking, and one count of Motor Vehicle Theft. He is currently being held in Dougherty County jail after being arrested in Albany four days after the theft of the vehicle.

In a press release, GCPD give details on how the suspect was able to do this:

  • On Dec. 3, Johnson walked around the dealership attempting to get into the showroom.  He walked into the service area and took a bottle of water.  When an officer found him walking in the parking lot at 2:40 a.m. he warned him he could be arrested for loitering and prowling. The officer did not know he had been inside the dealership. Detectives believe he was looking for where the key fobs to the cars were kept.
  • Around 9:30 a.m. Johnson returned to the dealership, walking around and pulling on a few doors, one of which opened. He left after being confronted by two employees.
  • The following day, Dec. 4, Johnson returned to the dealership, walked around and was eventually criminally trespassed from the business by Gwinnett Police officers.
  • On Dec. 5 he returned to the dealership after hours, again walking around and pulling on doors.
  • Finally, just before midnight on Dec. 7, Johnson went back to the dealership and entered the business.  This time he was able to steal three key fobs and a 2025 Mercedes Benz GLE350 that was in the parking lot.
  • On December 9, Gwinnett Police detectives were informed that Warwick Police had impounded the stolen Mercedes from a traffic stop in their jurisdiction.  At the time of the traffic stop, the Mercedes had not been entered in as stolen.  They told detectives that Johnson had been driving the stolen Mercedes but had been released at the scene.
  • On December 11, Albany Police had located Johnson loitering around a Chrysler car dealership.  Johnson is currently in custody in the Dougherty County jail.
