Highway 78 was shut down both ways in Between Monday night due to two fiber optic internet cables lying across all four lanes of the road. A transformer blew up, causing a small fire and the cables to fall across Highway 78.

“Walton County Sheriff’s Office has a detour established. Walton County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Craig League said. The fiber optic cable also came in contact with a major power distribution circuit, damaging it.

“Walton EMC is on location and power is going to have to be shut down in order to make repairs,” League said. “It could put lots of people out of power for a while.”
