BETWEEN, GA – (July 7, 2026) – You may have gone to elementary school with him at the old Walker Park School. You may have attended middle and high school with him at Georgia Walton Academy. You may have even purchased a phone or two from him at one of his Verizon stores in Walton or Gwinnett counties. Or perhaps you’ve simply seen him around Walton County, where he grew up.
Now, the hometown familiar face is stepping onto a much bigger stage.
Paul Russell is no longer just another small-town boy from Between, Ga. The now-Loganville resident is looking to make a name for himself in country music. As an independent country recording artist, he is preparing to release his second single.
“I was born and raised in Between and recently released my debut country single,” Russell said. “‘Catfishin’,’ is a modern country song inspired by Southern life, humor, and the unique experiences that come with online dating.”
Russell is following that up with his second single, “Found a Little Luck,” which will be released this Friday, July 10.

“Although ‘Catfishin” is my first official release, I have spent years writing songs inspired by life in rural Georgia and currently have additional music scheduled for release throughout 2026,” Russell said.
Among the additional songs he plans to release is “If You Blink You’ll Miss It,” a tribute to his hometown of Between, Ga.
If you listen to it, you’ll know exactly where his heart is.
“I’ve always loved music. Some of my favorite memories are sitting with my dad and listening to song after song. When I started writing my own music, I wanted to create songs that would make people smile, laugh, and see a little bit of themselves in the story. If ‘Catfishin” gives someone a reason to smile and sing along, then I’ve done my job,” Russell said.
According to Russell’s press kit, “He is an independent country artist and songwriter from Between, Georgia, a small town of just over 400 residents situated between Atlanta and Athens. Drawing inspiration from Southern life, humor, small-town culture, and real-life experiences, Russell creates music that is relatable, memorable, and uniquely Southern.”
Russell said he roots run deep in Between, so it’s not surprising that his music reflects that.
“My great grandfather, Willie Thompson, used to own the general store in Between and had the farm across the street from it. He used to tell me about how he would ride his horse and buggy into Atlanta to go to the farmers market and take people from the Between area’s goods with him to trade for them while he was getting things for the store, Russell said. My Mom actually ran her business out of his house at the farm for years. Dinner in a Dash. I lived there until I was in my 20s and my Mom and stepdad still live there in the house I grew up in. Heck, I’m old enough to remember when Highway 78 was two lanes running through there. I’ve always loved my little town of Between.”
