LOGANVILLE, GA (March 25, 2026) — For many years, a pair of Canada geese has returned each March to Loganville City Hall, where Mama Goose lays her eggs and hatches a new generation of goslings under the watchful eye of Papa Goose.
Right on schedule, the pair has returned again this March to prepare to welcome their newest brood.
Affectionately named Ricky and Lucy, the geese have, for reasons unknown, chosen Loganville City Hall as the perfect place for these important moments in their lives—perhaps because city employees have gone the extra mile to make them feel at home.
As soon as Ricky and Lucy touch down and are spotted in their familiar spot, city staff erect a protective barrier on a grassy area next to City Hall. Once the site is prepared, Lucy can be found faithfully nesting, her clutch of eggs safely tucked beneath her. Ricky, the dutiful partner, keeps a vigilant watch, warning off potential predators—and even City Hall visitors—to keep a safe distance. His protective instincts can sometimes surprise unsuspecting guests who wander too close.
Once “baby watch” is over, delighted visitors are treated to the sight of the proud parents leading their tiny, yellow bundles of fluff around the Loganville City Hall parking lot.
Visitors are kindly asked to maintain a safe distance—for their own safety as well as that of the goslings. Papa Goose can become quite protective if his warnings are ignored.
Residents have come to cherish this annual tradition, watching as Mama Goose proudly leads her young family around the City Hall grounds.
By May, the family takes flight to destinations unknown, leaving residents to eagerly await their return next spring and the continuation of this beloved local ritual.
