Students at Loganville High School in Loganville have earned national recognition for their work promoting safe driving through a student-led media campaign.
In Andrea Hobbs’ class, students participated in the “Driving the Message” contest, a program organized by Teens in the Driver Seat in partnership with the National Road Safety Foundation. The contest challenges students to create peer-focused messaging that encourages safer driving behaviors.
The Loganville High students received 1st Place nationally for their social media reel, earning a $2,000 award. They also earned 1st Place in Georgia for their reel script, receiving an additional $2,500.
According to the Walton County School District’s social media post on the wins, “The reel highlights the powerful message these students created to promote safe driving and influence their peers. Through creativity and meaningful storytelling, they made an impact that will reach students across the country. We are proud of these students for using their voices to lead and inspire.”
According to the the National Road Safety Foundation, it is a nonprofit organization focused on reducing traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities through education and public awareness campaigns. Its programs target a range of audiences, with a strong emphasis on young drivers. Teens in the Driver Seat is a peer-to-peer safety initiative that works with high school students to address the leading causes of teen crashes, including distracted driving, speeding, and not wearing seat belts.
