DEMOREST, GA (12/03/2024)– Dozens of Piedmont University students will help bring the Annual Service of Lessons and Carols to the community Dec. 6-7 as the holiday event enters its 36th year.

“The Annual Service of Lessons and Carols is one of the region’s most beloved events, a true Piedmont University tradition, a special time when the community gathers to welcome the holiday season,” said Bobby Ivey, Piedmont University Assistant Professor and Director of Choirs. “We are privileged and honored to share this incredible music event for our Piedmont family and community year after year.”

This year’s Annual Service of Lessons and Carols will feature the Piedmont Chorale, the Sewell Organ, the Georgia Brass Quintet, and the Chestatee High School Chorale.

“Under the direction of Lisa Bassett, a Piedmont Alumna, the Chestatee High School choral program is one of the best high school choral programs in our region,” Ivey said.

Members of the Piedmont Chorale include:

  • Alaina Gordon of Monroe, GA
  • Jesse Smedley of Good Hope, GA

Lessons and Carols features a selection of readings, carols, and choir anthems to begin the holiday season. One of the highlights of this year’s program will be “We Sing with Choirs of Angels,” a beautiful composition by Tom Trenney, sung by the choirs and audience members, accompanied by the piano, organ, and brass quintet. The singing of “Silent Night” during the candlelight section of the service is always a memorable and moving experience for everyone.

Lessons and Carols will be performed Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 P.M. in the Piedmont University Chapel.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children. Ticket sales support Piedmont students and allow the university to continue to provide the community with exceptional musical performances. Tickets may be purchased at 36th Annual Service of Lessons and Carols | Piedmont University.

The Piedmont University Chapel is located at 992 Central Avenue, Demorest, Georgia, 30535.
