LAWRENCEVILLE – The Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office announced that a Loganville man will serve a life sentence for sexually assaulting a teen.
According to a press release, last week a jury found Johnel Elisse Welch, 43, of Loganville, guilty of aggravated sexual battery for the 2021 incident involving a 17-year-old. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years, with the possibility of parole.

“We will always hold those who commit crimes like these accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said.
On Dec. 27, 2021, the defendant had unwelcomed sexual intercourse with the teen. In court the teen testified that the defendant threw up after the incident. She reported the attack and consistently repeated the same details of the incident to investigators in January 2022, again in January 2023, and from the witness stand in court.
Special Victims Unit Assistant District Attorney Scott Estes, SVU Intern Joseph King, and Assistant District Attorney Selwin Patterson prosecuted the case with assistance from SVU Investigator Christina Newman andVictim Witness Advocate Mari Munoz.
