Long-awaited bypass expected to be open by Halloween

MONROE, GA (Sept. 21, 2025) At the September 2025 Monroe City Council Meeting, City Administrator Logan Propes gave an update on traffic. He advised that the long-awaited bypass around downtown Monroe should. be open by Oct. 31. The bypass traverses 4.7 miles from Unisia Drive at U.S. Highway 78 to South Broad Street/Georgia Highway 11 just outside the city’s southern limits.

Propes also reported that progress is being made in getting traffic signalization installed at the intersection of U.S. Highway 78 and Georgia Highway 11 in the southern edge of the city. This intersection currently is a problematic traffic bottleneck for traffic exiting Highway 78.
