Diane Turner, long-time educator and member of the Walton County Board of Education, passed away Tuesday last week. Turner had been battling cancer since last spring.
Turner taught in the Walton County School District for years before retiring in 2000. After that, she was elected to the District 3 seat in 2012, serving until she resigned early in 2023 due to her prolonged illness. Politics were in the family, too, as Turner’s husband, Michael Turner, served two terms on the Walton County Board of Commissioners.
Turner was born on June 18, 1949, in Lawrenceville, yet grew up in Walton County, graduating from Monroe Area High School. She would go on to attend the University of Georgia — which she should revisit again and again as an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs football team — and return to Walton County to teach in Loganville, where she primarily taught math to the middle school grades
Turner married Michael Turner in 1970. The two had two children, five grandchildren and one greatgrandson. The pair lived in Loganville for over 50 years.
A funeral service will held on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Kuykendall and Keith Wages officiating. Interment will held at Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 6372 Highway 20, Loganville.
