Monroe PD Reports: Gunshots reported, burglary and suspicion of dog being poisoned

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents for the period March 16 – 22, 2018. Due to the length this report, it has been split into four parts. This is the second part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Suspicious Vehicle Pine Park – A white hatchback SUV was parked in front of the residence.  Left the area prior to officer’s arrival.
  • Dispute at Harris St., reference to subjects arguing. Female stated a male pushed the chair she was sitting in, both parties stated the altercation was only verbal. Report taken.
  • Accident at Unisia Drive – in front Walmart DC in reference to a two-vehicle crash, both vehicles removed by Taylors. Driver 1 Kennen Douglas was driving on a suspended license, he was placed under arrest and transported to the City of Monroe Police Department. Kennen Douglas was fingerprinted and released on copy. Report taken. 
  • Suspicious Vehicle on HWY 11 Southbound, reference to a car tailgating complainant and driving erratic. Followed vehicle from 78 to Vine Street with no violations.
  • Juvenile Complaint on South Madison near East Washington St., reference to two juveniles riding skateboards. Negative contact.
  • Juvenile Complaint at Pine Park St., reference to grandson arguing with his grandmother. Situation was mediated and grandma going to send him on a plane flight tomorrow to California.
  • Suspicious Person on West Spring Street near Hwy 78, reference to a male and female hitchhiking. Checked area with negative contact.
  • Discharging Firearms East Marable Street -Negative contact with any shots being heard in the area.
  • Suspicious Vehicle East Church Street – A pick-up pulling a trailer with no lights. Negative contact.
  • Traffic Stop at South Madison Avenue and Towler St., reference to officer seeing a vehicle driving reckless through Monroe Estates.  Dalton Cope was arrested for Reckless Driving and turned over to Walton County Jail.
  • Suspicious Vehicle Matthews Park – All okay, driver was informed the parks are closed at night.
  • Firearms discharge at Walker Drive in reference to the complainant hearing several gunshots, area check conducted with negative contact. 
  • Agency Assist, West Vine Street – Conestoga Mobile Home Park, in reference to making contact with the residence to help the WCSO identify a female subject. Negative contact with anyone at the residence.
  • Illegal Drugs West Spring Street at Haven Inn in reference to someone smoking in room. Officers could smell an odor of burnt Marijuana upon entrance to the hotel. The manager stated the room was rented to a female and she and two other females had already left the location. The room was searched. A small amount of marijuana, ecstasy, and two burner phones were located inside the room. Manager advised the females left in a dark grey Nissan Sentra. The items were placed into evidence to be destroyed.
  • Domestic Dispute Wheel House Lane – Horace Browner and a female were physically disputing.  Horace Browner was arrested for battery (FVA) and transported to the Walton County Jail.
  • Entering Auto Pine Knoll, reference to hearing a car alarm go off. Made contact with complainant whom stated he heard the alarm to his GMC Canyon truck go off. Complainant checked the truck and advised someone had been inside it. The driver’s side door was found to be unlocked (supposed to be locked) and items were moved inside the vehicle. He stated he did not see any items missing at this time.
  • 911 Hang up, West Spring Street at Clearview. Officer’s spoke to nurses on location whom made contact with multiple units in the hospital. No one on location knew of any issues on location. Everything okay.
  • Damage to Property North Broad Street. Complainant stated that someone cut a hole in the screen to the back porch and moved the cardboard from the screen. He advised his 2-year-old pit bull is now very sick. He believed someone tried to poison his dogs. He suspects his neighbor whom told his girlfriend that she was going to kill his dogs.
  • Traffic Stop Highway 78 East and East Spring Street. Christopher Cooper stopped for not having a fixed license plate. Cooper had active warrants out of Oconee County SO. Cooper was transported and released to Oconee County SO.
  • Meet with Officer Taylor’s Towing in reference to a female wanting to retrieve items from her vehicle. Her vehicle was involved in a hit and run last date and the driver fled the scene. She was advised to make contact with Officer this evening.
  • Suspicious Vehicle Ashton Pointe Apartments in reference to a black Nissan truck parked near the playground. The vehicle checked ok.
  • Harassment Reed Court. Complainant stated a male subject had been driving around his house and harassing him. Complainant was informed of the procedure of the Good Behavior Warrant and advised to block the male’s phone calls and texts. Report taken.
  • Animal Complaint Gatewood Drive in reference to a brown pit bull attacking the complainant’s pit bull. The pit bull was gone when officers arrived. An area check was conducted with negative contact.
  • Animal Complaint Thompson Ridge Dr., reference to the resident finding a malnourished pit bull in their yard this morning. Canine released to Walton County Animal Control.
  • Suspicious Person East Church Street at Chevron in reference to a black male wearing a purple hat on location, intoxicated and asking several people for money. The subject was sent on his way.
  • Suspicious Activity, West Spring Street at Goodwill Donation Center. While conducting an area check, officer located an open back door with no one on location. Building was cleared with no signs of forced entry or anything clearly missing. Also, while on location officer noticed the gate on the ladder to the roof was unsecure and open. Officer checked the roof for any signs of theft or criminal activity. Everything appeared okay. The rear door and gate were rescued.
  • Burglary Pinecrest Dr., reference to an unknown subject(s) entering complainant’s residence and removing several items.
  • Fire Assist West Spring Street at IHOP, reference to a gas leak. Negative on gas leak at IHOP. Dispatch then advised call was in reference to an auto accident on West Spring Street ramp at Hwy 78 with a vehicle leaking gas. Negative on auto accident. Officer made contact with a maroon Nissan Altima pulled off the side of the roadway unoccupied. All okay.
  • Traffic Stop Highway 78 at Walton Truck Stop – A male was stopped after his tag was ran and it was revealed the vehicle had no insurance.  The male was cited for no insurance and the vehicle was towed by towing Service.
  • Traffic Stop South Hammond Drive/East Spring Street. Red Dodge Ram truck stopped for brake light violation. Made contact with James Todd Hanson whom advised his license was suspended. James also had an active warrant through Jackson County for probation violation. James was arrested for the warrant and driving on a suspended license. The vehicle was impounded by Taylors. James was fingerprinted and transported to the Walton County Jail
  • Suspicious Person, highway 78 East – Walton Truck Stop. Employee flagged down officer to speak with suspicious white male whose been on location since last date. Officer’s made contact with Jason Edward Anderson stating he was lost and was homeless. Anderson had active warrants out of Mississippi and was arrested and released to the Walton County Jail.
