In what appeared to have been an anti-incumbent year, both Mayor Greg Thompson and District 8 Councilman Jimmy Richardson have been retired by voters after serving 12 years on the Council. However, it is not sure at this time who will replace them. Newcomers John Howard and Sandra Shurling will face off in the Dec. 5 Runoff Election for the mayoral seat. In District 8, former mayor and former Monroe Judge David Dickinson will also be in the Dec. 5 runoff against Lidia Garrett, wife of Monroe Councilman Norman Garrett. Ross Bradley won the District 3 seat outright, earning 68 percent of the vote and Councilman Wayne Adcock returns to his District 6 post having been elected unopposed.
