MPD Reports: Fraud report of scammer claiming to be from Monroe Utilities

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period April 16 – 23, 2020. Due to the length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the fifth part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

  • Child Custody – Ridge Rd – child custody dispute. The complainant was advised after reviewing the custody court order that the father was not in violation. The situation was mediated. 
  • Suspicious Person – E. Spring St. and Felker St. Compliant advised a male subject was riding a bike and yelling at things that were not there. The subject was identified. The subject was seen walking in the roadway on E Spring St. The Subject was advised to stay on the sidewalk. All ok
  • Dispute – E. Church St; Jack Peter’s.- In reference to a subject, arguing and fighting people at the Jack Peter’s convenience store. Because of the subject’s mental state, he was detained and transported to Piedmont Walton for a mental evaluation. He was cited with a Disorderly Conduct ticket and released to the hospital staff.
  • Narcotics – Wheel House Ln; An anonymous complainant advised subjects were smoking marijuana and the smoke was blowing into her window. Contact was made with several subjects on location wearing red/orange. Subjects were smoking cigarettes. No marijuana smelled or seen. All ok
  • Damage to Prop. – E. Washington St. – Complainant advised that his children’s mother, busted out windows on his vehicle. During the investigation, a witness stated they heard subjects yelling for her not to do it. Contact was made with the woman whose vehicle matched the description observed by the witness. She was taken into custody and charged with criminal damage to property.
  • Suspicious Vehicle – E. Church and Tall Oaks Dr. in reference to a vehicle parked blocking driveways. The caller is the property manager. No contact with the vehicle owner. Vehicle towed off the property by Taylor’s per Tall Oaks Management.
  • Dispute – W. Spring St. at Piedmont Walton in reference to a patient refusing to leave ER. The subject was arrested for Disorderly Conduct.
  • Damage to Property – Creek View Dr. in reference to a mailbox damaged over the weekend.
  • Damaged to property – GW Carver Dr. in reference to complainants’ vehicle being damaged severely overnight.
  • Dispute – W. Spring St. at Haven Inn in reference to a male on location arguing with staff.
  • Theft Report – W. Spring St. in reference to theft by an employee. Complainant advised he would call back to report after interviewing employees involved.
  • Burglary – E. Marable St. in reference to complainants’ house being burglarized.
  • Dispute – S. Broad St. in reference to a domestic dispute. One subject arrested for Battery FV and another arrested for simple battery FV and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
  • Fraud – Baker St. Spoke with the complainant who stated she was contacted by someone stating they were Monroe Utilities and asked her for her account number and social security number. She stated she gave them to the caller before realizing it was a scam. She was advised to contact her bank in reference to a credit freeze. Handled via phone.
  • Theft Report -Towler St. Complainant stated that his 26″ Huffy Beach cruiser, teal in color, was taken off his front porch sometime overnight. The value was approximately $200. Handled via phone.
  • Traffic Stop – E. Church & S. Madison. Traffic stop on a vehicle driving with headlights off. Probable cause search due to the odor of marijuana. The driver was charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, and other traffic offenses. Due to the coronavirus protocol, he was cited and released to a sober driver.
  • Domestic Dispute – Tanglewood Dr. In reference to a subject kicking down an interior door and striking subject in the face. Both subjects reside at this address and children were present during the encounter. He arrested and charged with Family Violence /Battery and (3) counts Cruelty to children 3rd degree.
  • Extra Patrol request of Edwards Street in reference to attempted entering auto last date.
