MPD Reports: Owl rescued by officers; motorcyclist arrested for DUI after clocking 85 mph in a 55 mph zone

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period July 24 – 30, 2026. Due to the length, this report has been split into four parts. This is the second part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction.

• Other Law – E Church St – Reference complainant upset that MPD continues to try to find a wanted suspect who lived at the location. Day watch unit took a warrant for the female at the residence for cruelty to animals. She was at the location and taken into custody without incident. She was transported to Walton County Sheriff’s Office, where she was turned over to deputies.
• Alarm – MLK Jr Blvd; Carmichael Drug – Business checked, all appeared ok.
• Disabled Vehicle – Hwy 78 EB / Hwy 11 – Call was initially dispatched as an accident with unknown injuries; however, the driver only lost control of the vehicle and spun out. All okay.
• Area Check – Downtown on Foot – All ok.
• Unsecured Premise – Double Spring Ch Rd; MAHS – In reference to the athletic complex being unsecured, the building was checked without contact. The door was secured.
• Shoplifting – Bold Springs Rd; Dr Kush – In reference to subject taking $324.00 worth in items. Warrants taken for misdemeanor shoplifting.
• Vehicle Lockout – Felker St – Vehicle unlocked no damage.
• EMS Assist – S. Broad St. – Intoxicated male requested transport to Piedmont Walton for a list of medical complaints. Walton EMS arrived and transported the male.
• Road blockage – Hwy 78 & Hwy 78 W Exit Ramp – In reference to trash in the roadway. The trash was removed, all ok.
• Other Law – S Broad St – In reference to an injured owl that was made known, by an unknown passerby. The owl was checked and DNR was notified. We were instructed to transport the owl safely in a box with a towel to some woods and bushes so that it could heal on its own for the next 24 hours. The owl was transported to Hammond Park and upon releasing it flew into a tree where it could rest. All okay.
• Dispute – Nowell St – In reference to a named subject throwing and hitting subject with a watermelon. He was placed under arrest for FV simple Battery and transported to WCSO.
• Agency Assist – McDaniel St – In reference to a subject on location, pulling on the front door of the residence. Upon arrival, the yard of the resilience was cleared with negative contact. Contact was made with the homeowners at the front door, who advised they were ok. Turned over to Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
• Suspicious Vehicle/Person – Felker St – In reference to an unknown vehicle pulling into the complainant’s driveway, and a subject banging on the door and attempting to open the door. The vehicle and subject were not on scene upon Officer arrival. Area checked with negative contact.
• Traffic Stop/DUI Arrest – Hwy 78 WB / Hwy 138 – Motorcycle clocked by LIDAR going 85mph in a 55mph zone. The driver exhibited glassy eyes, staggering, unable to maintain balance without assistance, the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath. The driver was evaluated through HGN, giving sufficient clues for DUI. IC read and refused after being placed under arrest. Vehicle towed by Taylors, driver transported to the jail without incident.
• Dispute – Birch St – Complainant advised a group of men and women seem to be arguing. Units arrived and there was no argument. There was a death in the family earlier in the week and the family was gathering. They advised they would go inside.
• Comments: Foot patrols conducted at 1800 & 2000 hrs.
• Traffic Stop – Male subject arrested for DUI less safe following a traffic stop. Transported to the WC Jail without incident.
• Suspicious Person – Hannah Ln. – In reference to subject asking residents for a cigarette. Subject resides in Wellington Manor and explained he was trying to bum a cigarette as stores will not sell them until 1230 and had not meant to bother anyone. He was sent on his way.
• Vehicle Unlock – W Spring St Charles Carwash – Vehicle unlocked no damage.
• Suspicious Vehicle – E. Spring St – Reference Dodge Pickup parked on location since yesterday afternoon. Vehicle returned all valid, unable to make contact with the owner. The store manager was advised of remedies.
• Alarm – South Broad Street – All ok. Staff on location.
• Agency Assist – Green St – In reference to assisting Mobile crisis who was on location to see subject. All okay.
• Traffic Stop/ Arrest – Highway 78 / Aycock Ave – Reference vehicle stopped due to cancelled tag. The driver was previously stopped for the same offenses. Subject was placed under arrest, fingerprinted and released on copies of citations.
• Dispute – Turner St. – In reference to an ongoing dispute between two subjects. This date, one subject stated that the other subject almost struck her with her vehicle as she was leaving her residence. She was advised to pursue a Temporary Protection Order against subject.
