The festive season is fast approaching and all the little ones soon will begin to get excited about what they may find under the tree on Christmas Day. But, it’s no secret that, maybe even more so this year, things are unlikely to be easy financially for many families. Every year, organizations and agencies step up to help make sure that as many children as possible still get to share in the excitement of the Christmas season despite financial difficulties.
In order to continue Monroe Police Department’s contribution through Shop With A Cop, they have come up with a plan that will help fund this, and future, year’s events – and you too can get involved. So get ready to lace up your running shoes and hit the road for a great cause – Monroe Police Department’s inaugural SWAT Trot 5K/10K run scheduled for Oct. 19, 2024.
This event brings together fitness enthusiasts, families, walkers, and supporters of all ages to raise funds for this year’s Shop with a Cop in Monroe. Whether you’re an experienced runner or just looking for a fun way to stay active, this gives you an opportunity to do your bit to support the local community.
“We have got sponsors to cover all the expenses so all the money raised by the run will go toward Shop with a Cop,” MPD Operation Commander Major Matt McClung said, adding that all the SWAT team members are participating as well as some of the officers. “And anybody else can sign up, or they can just donate if they want. They can sign up and get a t-shirt even if they choose not to run.”
McClung said the title sponsor for the event is Keep Smiling Plumbing, Electric and HVAC that will be covering expenses which will allow all funds raised to go toward Shop with a Cop. Other sponsors who have contributed are Kicked Hive Films that designed the Logo, JDC that has comped the shirts and Alcovy Signs.
The event will begin and end at the Monroe Police Department where there also will be a festive event for participants and supporters. McClung said Gary Potter from Alcovy Signs will be there there with his PA system and he will also provide music for the event. There also will be some police vehicles on display for children to see.
