New Monroe water tank on Cherry Hill Road has different look

Monroe City officials explain why the new water tank on Cherry Hill Road has a different look to it, one with a color that has some not so happy about. Instead of being the red and black associated with the Georgia Bulldogs, or even a purple and white associated with the Monroe Hurricanes, it is orange and white – the color associated with the Tennessee Volunteers!

But officials explain, that is not their doing. If you want to blame anyone, it would have to be the FAA!

According to officials, the specifics of the paint scheme were determined after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) conducted an aeronautical study. It was determined that under provision 49 U.S.C., Section 44718 and Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 77; that the structure would need to marked/lighted in accordance with FAA Advisory Circular 70/7460-1 M Change 1, Obstruction Marking and Lighting.

This Water Tank is the first to be constructed in Monroe in many years and is 172.6′ tall, with a 50′ tank diameter, and a capacity of 500,000 gallons of water.
