New take-out restaurant promises to ‘shift gears’ in the local cuisine

A new restaurant that hopes to open in Monroe next month promises to “shift gears” on cuisine in the local area. Shifters was granted its beer and wine license at last week’s City Council Meeting. The restaurant, located at 1104 S. Madison Avenue will offer a mostly take-out menu with wings, salads, sandwiches and catfish.

It is a joint venture between Stephen Bales and Duren who between them have more than some 30 years in the restaurant business with some family ties to Dunkin Donuts, Huddle House and the DeKalb local, Dudley’s.

The restaurant plans to be open Monday to Saturday, “afternoons and early evening, unless business demands more hours.”
