Nightly lane closures on SR 20 in Gwinnett scheduled April 11, 2026

press release from the georgia department of transportation

Gwinnett County…

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) advises motorists of scheduled night paving operations along State Route 20 (Buford Drive) in Gwinnett County.

WHEN:
Saturday, April 11, 2026
8:00 PM to 8:00 AM (overnight)
 WHERE:
SR 20 (Buford Drive) from Buford Highway (SR 13) to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Inside lane closures in both directions (eastbound and westbound)
  • Lane closures will be in place throughout the duration of overnight paving operations
  • Motorists should expect delays and use caution while traveling through the work zone

This work is part of the SR 20 widening project, which will expand Buford Drive from two lanes to three lanes in each direction between Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Buford Highway (SR 13). The project also includes improvements to the bridge over Railroad Avenue and the Norfolk Southern Railroad.

This project is a partnership between GDOT and Gwinnett County and serves as a critical connection between two major north-south corridors: Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Buford Highway. The corridor carries traffic from I-985 through western Gwinnett County and toward Cumming and Forsyth County.

Upon completion, the project will:

  • Enhance safety along the corridor
  • Reduce congestion
  • Improve mobility through a busy commercial district
  • Provide better access to SR 13

Motorists are urged to slow down, remain alert, and give crews plenty of space while work is underway.

Drive Alert, Arrive Alive

Advisory: Exact dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or downloading the Georgia 511 app.
