William Allen Segraves, age 82 died Thursday evening July 20th. Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Monroe at 11:00am on Monday July 24, 2017. Visitation and viewing will precede the services from 9:30 – 10:30am.
Mr. Segraves was born August 24th, 1934 in Fitzgerald, GA. To Marion and Isma Segraves. He attended school in Tifton and Fitzgerald, and was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School. He spent one year at South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia and too several courses at Georgia State College in Atlanta Georgia. Near the end of the Korean conflict, he served honorably three years in the Army Security Agency (ASA). His civilian employment included W. D. Felder Cotton Brokerage, General Tire, Sears, Orkin Pest Control, and Lanier Business Products. His retirement was December, 1993. His non-work activity was playing golf and recreational vehicle travel; having visited all states except Maine and Hawaii. His travels also included British Columbia and Ontario in Canada. By meeting people throughout the nation, he had names to call for medical or mechanical problems in their cities.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Louis Keels, and survived by his second wife, Verna Walker Segraves. Also survived by four children and their spouses. Daughter Cynthia Louis & Bryan Smith of Buford, GA, Daughter Anna Marie & Roger Conlin of Haymarket, VA., Son Willian Allen Jr. & Betsy Segraves of Knoxville, TN., and son Ansley Earl & Segraves of Cumming, GA., six grandchildren, Ben & Taylor Smith of Sugarhill, GA, Paul Smith of Buford, GA, Patrick Segraves of Cumming, GA, Quinn Segraves of Cumming, GA, Katie Segraves of Knoxville, TN., and Julia Smith of Buford, GA., and two great-grandchildren Kensley and Riley Smith.
