Daniel “Danny” Fendley, age 77 of Monroe, GA, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Rest Haven Cemetery, 200 N. Madison Avenue, Monroe, GA 30655.
Danny was born on December 6, 1946 in the old Monroe Hospital. He always called Monroe “HOME”. His parents were Edna Grace (Sorrells) Fendley and Morris Sheppard Fendley. His grandmother was part Cherokee Indian. Danny was proud of his Cherokee and Scot/Irish heritage. Danny loved God, family, Boy Scouts and entomology. Danny was in Monroe, GA Boy Scout Troop 81 and was the Scoutmaster for many years. He was also an Eagle Scout, represented Georgia at the Eagle Scout National Meeting in San Diego, CA, and participated in writing the Boy Scout Handbook. Danny retired from the University of Georgia Department of Entomology. He enjoyed research with insects, in particular the mosquito.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jonathan “Jon” Fendley; grandson, Jackson Morris Fendley; and brother-in-law, Jim Reed. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Glenda (Witcher) Fendley of Monroe, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Morris and Vicki Fendley of Harrisonburg, VA; daughter, Danielle Fendley Yearwood of Monroe, GA; son and fiancée, Marshall Fendley and Elaina Runyon of Kermit, WV; sister, Pat Reed of Marietta, GA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Sandra and Rick Hammond of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Daniel and his wife Haylie, Alexis, Summer, and Ruby Rose; four great-grandchildren, one niece and three nephews.
