Dorothy Smith Blalock, age 94, of Loganville, GA passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020.
Dorothy “Dot” Smith Blalock was born March 7, 1926, in McDonough, GA, as one of 9 children, to Hattie Cawthon Smith and George Wesley Smith.
After and moving to Decatur, GA with her family to open Smith’s Grocery Store in Avondale Estates, she worked her way to Supervisor at the State Tag Department in the Capitol Building in Atlanta, GA. On September 28, 1946, she married the love of her life, Joseph Charles Blalock, Sr. Upon his return from service in the U.S. Army’s Pacific corridor of WWII. Together, they founded Blalock’s Body Shop in Decatur and ran a thriving business for 30 years. They joined the Avondale Alliance Church during this time and were devoted members until their retirement from the business and move to “the country” of Loganville, GA in 1985. Here they quickly found a new church home at Corinth Christian Church, where Dot became passionately involved with the leadership of many church clubs & activities. Together, her and “Charlie” enjoyed a shared passion for cultivating acres of land into landscaped grounds.
Dot was proceeded in death by her devoted husband of 72 years, Charlie, also age 94, on May 27, 2018. She is survived by their two children, Vicki Blalock Dryden of Monroe, and Joseph C. Blalock, Jr. of TN, along with three grandchildren; Sarah Mitchell, Phoebe Stevens, & Michele Leach, five great-grandchildren, sister, Shirley McCool of AR, and many nieces & nephews.
There will be a Graveside Service at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 27, at Melwood Cemetery, 5170 East Ponce de Leon Ave., Stone Mountain, GA, with Minister Don Hardison officiating.
