Obituary and funeral services: Esther Couch Epperson, 83, of Monroe

Esther Couch Epperson was born at home on December 2, 1933 to her parents Henry Coleman Couch and Maudie Wheeless Couch. She was preceded in death by both her parents and her brothers, Howard and Buren Couch; and her husband, W. T. Epperson.

She is survived by her children: Scarlett E. Kitchens, Warren (Kaye) Epperson, Marsha (Mrs. Bruce) Millians, Kenneth (Cheryl) Epperson, Ronald (Cynthia) Epperson, and Lucinda (Mrs. Donald) Wright; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Having quit school after her 9th grade of school to get married; Mrs. Epperson worked many years in many of the sewing manufacturers in Monroe. In the late 1960’s she went on to get her GED. She then got her Respiratory Therapist Degree on June 4, 1970 and worked at the Walton County Hospital until the birth of her 6th child.

She returned to the hospital after the death of her husband in 1982 and worked there as switchboard operator until she retired on September 30, 1994.

Mrs. Epperson was known for her baking. She took the Wilton Decorating Classes and learned to do fine decorating. She even baked some for the public. Her specialties were her Chocolate, Caramel, and Coconut cakes.

She also had a green thumb. She could root and grow just about any plant she ran across.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe and was active until her health caused her to be home bound.

Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of the services. Visitation is Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm with graveside services on Sunday afternoon, August 20, 2017 at Hill Haven Memory Gardens at 2:00 P. M. with Dr. Todd Ware officiating.
